BDNY, considered the leading trade fair for boutique and lifestyle hospitality, once again featured the top suppliers of hotel furniture, flooring, fabrics, lighting, artwork, and other FF&E categories. Several Innvision team members attended to connect with manufacturers and hotel owners, developers, and brands. They also went looking for inspiration, useful ideas, and a first-hand view of products that might work well for design and procurement in upcoming projects. Below are insights and reflections from this year’s BDNY conference.

BDNY 2025 Recap: New Trends in Hotel Design

BDNY, considered the leading trade fair for boutique and lifestyle hospitality, once again featured the top suppliers of hotel furniture, flooring, fabrics, lighting, artwork, and other FF&E categories. Several Innvision team members attended to connect with manufacturers and hotel owners, developers, and brands. They also went looking for inspiration, useful ideas, and a first-hand view of products that might work well for design and procurement in upcoming projects.

Below are insights and reflections from this year’s BDNY conference.

Noteworthy Design Trends

Sustainability - Manufacturers are intensifying their efforts to reduce their products’ carbon footprints by reducing their reliance on fossil fuels, using cleanerchemicals to avoid VOCs (volatile organic compounds), and conserving water, energy, and other inputs wherever possible. One example of this is Hyphyn vinyl upholstery, a biodegradable material that degrades 90% within 24 months in a landfill.

Styles - There was a mix of minimal, calming design styles as well asmaximalist, opulent design trends shown:

·        Curvilinear: There was an emphasis on curvilinear lines that referenced Art Deco design seen throughout the show. They manifested in the form of arches, radiused corners, and the more prevalent "capsule" shape seen in seating, case goods, and tile.

·        Japandi: Curved lines that create a sense of fluidity appeared in the Japandi style, a mix of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian functionality and warmth, with a lighter neutral upholstery direction.

·        Traditional: Other, more traditional designs and elements were a stark contrast to the minimal Japandi-style direction. The traditional styling easily fits the Speakeasy style that was prevalent during Prohibition. Notably, mid-scale vendors are now able to provide more refined and tailored details that were previously only available from higher-end sources.  These traditional elements appeared in furniture forms, elaborate trims, burlwood, and ornamental detailing.

·        Metallic porcelain tile: This product was resurgent, with multiple manufacturers showing new product. With a nod to traditional design, Stone Source has introduced a burlwood-look porcelain tile for vertical applications.

Noteworthy New Products

Artline introduced mixed media wallcovering solutions that are completely customizable. They can use a combination of fabrics, beading, laminate, and embroidery to achieve custom looks that will meet all required fire codes and provide a stunning focal point in any space.

Another new product is the Newton Rollershade system that eliminates all safety concerns with chains and cords used to operate window roller shades. The Newton system is anintuitive and easy-to-use two-wand system available with side and sill channels, similar to its predecessor. One wand raises while the other one lowers a rollershade with a spring assist or inertia-based mechanism. The same system is also available with ADA-compliant wands that eliminate the need for motorized rollershades, which can be costly and become a maintenance headache.

At Innvision, we look forward to the opportunity to use what we learned at BDNY about hotel design trends and new products in upcoming projects. If you’re ready to start thinking about design and procurement for your next hotel renovation or new construction, Contact us today.
