The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the need to increase proper cleaning and sanitation in hotel guest rooms and public spaces. Since guests and hotel workers will only feel safe if a property is clean, hotel owners, operators, and brands are doing more than ever to ensure the health and well-being of guests and employees.

Most of the precautions and standards put in place as a result of the pandemic already existed for hoteliers around the world. However, hotel brands have added their own programs to raise the bar on cleanliness requirements. The biggest change is the extra care and attention to cleaning the rooms, which is causing housekeeping’s clean times to run longer.

Another huge addition is the increased education directed at hotel visitors on how and when things are cleaned. An effective way for hoteliers to relay this message is by using seals and signs to indicate when they clean an item (remotes, countertops, fabrics) , and by describing how (which products used) they disinfect different areas. Some newer sanitation advancements, such as touchless entry and UV lights, are helping to keep common areas safe and to disinfect touchpoints that may be sensitive to chemicals.

Cleaning regulations placed on hospitality require cleaning staff to use specific chemicals on certain surfaces. The FF&E provided from manufacturers also comes with instructions describing the best way to clean an item without stripping any protective coatings, coloration, or finishes. These two requirements can sometimes clash. Hoteliers are following the regulations to create the safest possible sanitation for their guests and staff.

To assist hoteliers, Innvision Hospitality recommends taking a look at CF Kent’s guide to sanitizing various hotel surfaces. Contact our amazing team at Innvision Hospitality with any questions you may have on how to clean and maintain FF&E. We’ll get through this together!
